Work

Engineering Assistant, Applied Research Lab at the University of Hawaii

arl.hawaii.edu

  • Design and integrate sensing systems, developing software, firmware, and hardware interfaces for multiple environmental sensors
  • Developed a real-time data collection, storage, and visualization pipeline for deployment on single-board computer (SBC) platforms using Python, Docker, Fluent Bit, PostgreSQL, Loki, Grafana, and other related tools
  • Created custom printed circuit boards to streamline integration between sensors and SBCs, accelerating prototyping workflows
  • Designed custom lightweight Docker images for high-frequency sensor data acquisition, reducing setup overhead and improving portability across SBC platforms
  • Implemented embedded Linux hardware configuration mechanisms (device tree overlays and udev rules) to modify UART baud rates, adjust I2C clock frequencies, and enable a PPS GPIO to maintain sub-microsecond timing accuracy for an on-device NTP server

2024 - Present

Summer Intern, Applied Research Lab at the University of Hawaii

arl.hawaii.edu

  • Developed embedded firmware in the Arduino environment for reconfigurable wireless sensor packages that collect, store, and transmit positional and environmental data
  • Implemented point-to-point radio networking to enable multi-node wireless communication with a centralized ground station, a real-time operating system (FreeRTOS) to schedule concurrent tasks, and Google’s Protocol Buffers format for efficient data serialization and transmission

2024 - 2024

Activities

Vertically Integrated Project Student Researcher, Nanosystems Lab

  • Developed, tested, and deployed a reusable template for use across multiple existing Python libraries that provide control over lab automation equipment
  • Utilized the Cookiecutter command-line utility with packaging and dependency management (Poetry), testing (Nox and Pytest), CI/CD (Github Actions), documentation (Sphinx) and publishing tools (PyPI), among others
